I’m not spoiling any plot details, but I will discuss at least the basic conceit of each story, as well as core themes. Every other story got my immediate attention, and petty criticism. I read the first 3 before taking down any thoughts to get a good sense of Jackson’s writing and what to expect. So here are my thoughts on each story as I read them – mostly.

Shirley Jackson fits that bill, despite being a pretty well-respected name in the gothic canon. I haven’t read much of the genre lately though, and thought a voice that was new to me was the best way to jump back in. Gothic fiction is not my go to read but I’m certainly a fan, often taking some inspiration from the style for my own stories.
